About GTN Charlotte

The Green Teacher Network is a multi-faceted gardening resource that believes in the power of school gardens to reconnect children to real food and their natural ecosystems. GTN supports schoolyard gardens in order to positively impact academics and healthy lifestyles while combatting the negative effects of nature deficit disorder, childhood obesity, and the academic achievement gap.

We support Charlotte area garden leaders (teachers, parents, volunteers) so that their school garden and environmental education program can be more effective and robust. This support comes through quarterly seminars on how to make the most of school gardens as hands-on teaching tools, networking with industry experts, and collaborating to support local foods and expand current health and wellness initiatives through school-based gardening. All teachers and garden volunteers from public, private, charter and home schools are invited. In addition, any person directly involved in the local food and growing economy is invited to participate.

Who should join the Green Teacher Network?

All teachers from public, private, charter and home schools are invited.  In addition, educators directly involved in the local food and growing economy are invited to participate. Schools that have (or are planning to have) school gardens are encouraged to have multiple teachers attend to facilitate planning, teamwork and support.
